We have given much consideration to accessibility considering a wide range of needs, incorporating accessible features into many elements at Brook Meadow wherever we can. Accessible design is good design in that it benefits people who don't have disabilities as well as people who do, and at Brook Meadow accessible design helps people get together.

WASHROOM FACILITIES

Accessible Features:
You'll find 2 fully compliant accessible WC/shower wet rooms. The unisex is accessed with a radar key built in the centre of the main washroom facilities, with level access. We have 2 shower room chairs available; one with wheels and one without. Please ask at reception if you need an accessible key, for which a £5 returnable deposit is required. |
Our newly refurbished women's washrooms also have an accessible wet room. Here you'll feel spoilt with gold sensor taps, a shower with lever handle, thermostatic controls, rain shower and diverter for a hand held shower, grab rails, fold down seat and pull cord in the correct places. The floor is antis slip tiling to R10 or pendulum rating 36. We've even installed a basin where you can put things to one side.

THE OLD Fishing Lodge
|
Our Fishing Lodge offers 2 additional family washrooms. There is a utility area which includes a pay-as-you-go washing machine and tumble dryer. A hairdryer is also available, and a power socket to blow up your air bed. A small dining area and community library should you fancy borrowing a book or leaving some behind. The kitchen is fitted with a wheelchair accessible 90cm high sink, kettle, microwave, fridges, freezer, an induction hob and oven. This facility is for everyone to use. You may store your ice packs in the freezer and use the fridge but please be mindful of others' needs too.

moovie night in the cowshed

Enjoy our charming open-air cinema in the cowshed. During peak season weekends we show family favourites. For timings of shows follow us on Facebook or ask at the office. Film shows are free of charge and exclusive to our guests. During the school summer holidays we also do local charity fundraisers pizza and cinema evenings. Please bring your own blankets if you have them. Ice- creams and popcorn are available before the show from reception.

Accessible Features:
- Subtitles and a portable induction loop are available on request. In practice we have found the speakers provide suitable volume for the hard of hearing when using hearing aids and the subtitles have been perfect for deaf guests. We are happy to test the sound with you prior to the show to check you are happy. Subtitles have been used on a number of occasions but please do let us know in advance of the show so we can make sure the film choice has them - There is plenty of space; you can bring your own seating if you have special requirements or use our straw bale seating that has a double stacked bale at the rear to create a backrest |

All our lodges have been thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind, though none are fully accessible. Each lodge offers slightly different features, with some common and unique elements listed below. If you require specific items to enhance your comfort, such as a dining chair with arms, portable suction grab rails (to position as needed), an anti-slip mat for the shower tray, or a shower chair (with or without wheels), please let us know, and we will ensure they are ready for your stay.

marabou safari lodge

Our Marabou tented lodge sleeps 8. We have constructed a ramp for buggies and wheelchairs but the angle of the ramp is steeper than fully compliant ramps so you will most likely need a hand if using a wheelchair. The king size four-poster bed has relatively little circulation space around it, however you'll find a generous traditional knoll sofa with drop down sides which can serve as an extra bed option if wheelchair space is a concern. Silver bird Airstream
|
Our airstream sleeps 2 and is connected to a generous covered outdoor raised deck. We have constructed a ramp for buggies and wheelchairs to the west side of the deck. The living space inside the caravan is very tight but may suit some individuals as you'd be able to hold on to something everywhere you moved. Kitchens inside and out with a variety of dining and food prep options which may suit some individual needs.

The lodges are comfortable, centrally heated, and designed to reflect nature which has a very calming effect. Beyond the physical comforts, there are subtle design elements that further enhance the sense of peace and relaxation, ensuring a truly restorative stay.
Spending time near a body of water has a remarkable effect on well-being. It can offer a range of benefits that contribute to physical, social, and psychological health. The calming influence of water promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances mood, making it a positive experience for everyone. All our lodge interiors are thoughtfully designed to draw inspiration from nature, creating a calming atmosphere that reflects the tranquil surroundings bringing the outside in. Each lodge features a unique style to cater to different tastes, but all share a cohesive design ethos centered on natural elements and a soothing, limited color palette. For instance, Woodpecker Lodge's master bedroom showcases sunset-inspired ombre walls, while large round mirrors subtly evoke the imagery of moons or suns. Natural materials add a grounding, tactile touch, and visual references to nature abound—such as bird-like hanging light fixtures or the decorative branch adorned with twinkling lights over the dining table in Kingfisher Lodge, reminiscent of night stars. Birds also appear in artwork, wallpaper, and murals, enhancing the peaceful, nature-inspired retreat. We understand that breaking routine can be challenging for some, especially when faced with unfamiliar environments and new experiences on holiday. To help ease the transition, families can explore photos of our accommodation in advance, allowing children to know what to expect. We also offer videos that showcase every aspect of the stay, ensuring there are no surprises upon arrival. Our goal is to create a comforting and predictable experience, making your family’s holiday as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. |
Skylark lodge is a perfect example of the same pastel palette appearing again and again in different rooms which creates a sense or harmony. It’s also a very joyful fresh space without being overpowering. The hand painted mural has shapes from nature in calm pink and pistachio colours. Children are particularly drawn to this lodge of all three.
Although the lodges have open plan living spaces the acoustics are attenuated. Eg skylark lodge kitchen has forbo linoleum cupboard fronts which are acoustically absorbent helping to reduce noise. We understand that individuals with hearing aids or sensory needs may find noisy, hard environments uncomfortable. That’s one reason why our lodges are furnished with luxurious velvet sofas, deep pile rugs, and plush cushions, all of which contribute to absorbing sound and providing a quieter, more peaceful stay in a comfortable environment for all guests. The site can be lively with campers on weekends particularly during the summer holidays, so for those seeking a quieter experience, weekdays may be a better option. However, we enforce a very strict "quiet after 11pm" policy, with no music allowed after this time and no loud music permitted at any point. This ensures that all guests can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing stay, regardless of when they visit. All lodge deck spaces are enclosed by balustrading, providing a sense of security through defensible space. This allows you to relax comfortably on the deck, soaking in the fresh air and the calming ambiance of being next to water. Each lodge offers a stunning view of the lake, enhancing the peaceful experience. Soft seat pads accompany the outdoor lounge furniture, ensuring comfort as you unwind in this serene setting. Our glamping units also feature nature-inspired interiors. If you're comfortable with something a little different, they may be worth exploring for a one-of-a-kind stay immersed in nature. |
